How do I install Cognito Money?

Download the installer from our Download page, run the .exe file, and follow the installation wizard. The app will be installed to your Program Files folder and a desktop shortcut will be created.

Where is my data stored?

All your financial data is stored locally on your computer in an SQLite database file. By default, it's saved in your user documents folder. You can change this location in Settings and create backups wherever you'd like.

How do I import my bank statements?

Bank imports are available with Standard ($29/year) and Pro ($79/year) subscriptions. Go to Transactions → Import Statement. You can upload CSV, Excel (.xlsx), or OFX files. The system will automatically detect your bank's format.

Can I use this on multiple computers?

Yes! Your subscription works on all your personal devices. To sync data between computers, simply copy your database file (via USB drive, cloud storage like Dropbox, or any method you prefer). Your data stays under your control.

Do I need internet access?

The Free edition works 100% offline. Standard and Pro subscriptions require internet for AI features (chat, receipt scanning, auto-categorization). Your financial data is processed securely through our servers—we never store it.

How does the AI chatbot work?

Standard subscribers get fast AI chat powered by Gemini 2.0 Flash for everyday questions like "How much did I spend on groceries?" Pro subscribers also get Deep Research mode with Gemini 3.0 Pro for complex analysis like spending trend predictions and savings plans. No API keys needed—it's all included in your subscription.

What's the difference between Standard and Pro?

Both include bank imports, receipt scanning, and AI chat. Pro adds Deep Research AI mode that uses advanced reasoning for complex financial analysis. Pro also includes priority support. See our Pricing page for full details.

What's your refund policy?

We offer a 30-day money-back guarantee on all subscriptions. If you're not satisfied for any reason, email us within 30 days and we'll refund your payment. See our Refund Policy for full details.

How do I upgrade from Free?

Click the robot icon in the app or go to Settings → Subscription. Choose Standard or Pro, complete payment, and your new features unlock immediately. Your existing data is preserved.

What happens if I cancel?

Your subscription stays active until the end of your billing period. After that, the app reverts to Free edition features. All your data remains on your computer—we never delete or lock your data.

Is my data secure?

Yes. Your data stays on your computer. When using AI features, only the relevant financial context is sent securely for processing—we don't store it on our servers. Optional features include password protection and AES-256 encryption of your database file.
